Sport and goals

Does a performance goal change the answer?

US care · As of September 2026

What does “performance” mean to me?

Describe the goal in ordinary words. What do you hope to do, what is stopping you, and how would you recognise a useful change?

Ask the doctor or other health professional why that medicine fits your goal. Ask what studies show it might help someone with your health problem, and what the studies still leave unknown.

Does approval settle a sports rule?

No. Approval of a medicine and permission under a sports rule are different checks.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) publishes the prohibited list used in world sport.

BPC-157 and TB-500 are names of peptides that may turn up in a search. WADA’s list in force in September 2026 banned both at all times.

That includes time outside competition.

Does a prescription remove a sports restriction?

USADA, the US Anti-Doping Agency, can grant a therapeutic use exemption: sports permission for an illness requiring a prohibited medicine.

A prescription alone is not that permission.

Ask the relevant sports body which checks and permissions apply to your situation.

Will the list change?

As of September 2026, WADA had published the next list, which takes effect January 1, 2027.

Until then, the list for 2026 remained in force.

What if I serve in the military?

The US military has a separate prohibited-ingredient rule for dietary supplements.

This military rule covers dietary supplements: products taken to add to the diet. It does not decide the rules for prescribed medical care.
